NFL Players and Redneck Lotto WinnersThere is not much differnece. They live very well for a few years and then go bankrupt a few years later (after retiring or winning). The following NY Giant - Mike Strahan article is funny, tragic and illustrates my point. What's the over/under on how many years after retirement that Strahan files for bankruptcy? Southeastern Conference FootballThe college season kicks off in less than one month and a thought occured to me about the state of my conference..... Most experts pick LSU this year as the SEC team to beat. I can not argue with that. What is amazing to me is how deep the conference is. Consider league coaches Saban, Meyer, Spurrior and Fulmer. Each coach has a National Championship to his credit in the past decade and yet none are favored this year. Combine that with an undeated Auburn team also in the last decade and last season's BCS title game blow out..... And the SEC is a scary good football league. College football conferences cycle up and down over the years, but recently its been the SEC, USC.....and everybody else.Saturday, August 11. 2007

Pimping Other Blogs
I'm not a big blog reader myself. I have a short attention span and not much free time. Part of the reason my blogs are so short. Anyway, here are a few friend blogs that are worth a read......
Hank and Tassie are on a cross country road trip (TX to Alaska) and are positng at every stop along the way. Great pics and comentary. I would love to take the same trip, but will just live vicariously thru there trip: blog link Rayfes doesn't blog much, but he hammers the iPhone in a recent post: blog link Lisa is a very funny and colorful writer. Her adventures are an entertaining read. She claims to have a large group of subscribers, unlike my faithful five readers. blog link Links to all my other friends blogs: blog list Sunday, July 22. 2007

Dog FightingIn light of Ron Mexico's (aka Mike Vick) recent legal troubles, I thought I would share my opinions on fighting..... I do not condone dog fighting. Sunday, July 8. 2007Score One for Al Gore's KidY'all probably have already heard about Al Gore III's recent brush with the law. Something about speeding and possession. I am not much of a conspiracy theorist, but I think his arrest was a big win for Al Sr's global warming awareness campaign. Think about it.....100 mph in a Prius. Yes, a Prius! I did not know hybrid's were such performance cars. Score one for green and all the new hybrid sales his arrest will generate. Saturday, July 7. 2007Crocs TrendWow! Do you know anyone wearing these hideous casual shoes? They are everywhere. I really appreciate this new fad. If ugly apparel is the new trend, this bodes very well for my wardrobe and fashion sense. Maybe I am bitter because I was given a free pair a couple years ago as a triathalon freebee. They went straight to Goodwill. If I had only kept them for a couple years.....I would still not wear them, but at least I could say I own Crocs. Saturday, July 7. 2007

Post Surgery Moral SupportThe following is a conversation between true friends a day or two after my recent surgery: Ex Girlfriend: Do you need me to come over and massage anything? Toby: Yes, great idea. Toby: No, wait! Very bad idea. I do not want to be close to females for a few days. Toby: May I take a rain check (maybe in a couple weeks)? Ex Girlfriend: No! Saturday, July 7. 2007A Tree Named TobyMy sabbatical girl friend promised a to name a new tree in her back yard after me. She is pretending to be an aborist this weekend. Actual tree will depend on which Chester (her new dog and my replacement) chooses to relieve himself on most. Sunday, July 1. 2007

iPhone
If you waited in line and bought an iPhone this past Friday, 29-Jun-07, please call me!!!
I want to be a part of the hype and want to hear how good your voice will sound on a $600 cell. I will have to live vicariously through you via my hand-me-down, hacked, Windows Mobile, audiovox cell. Yes Cingular (or ATT or who ever you are now), I did not sign another contract with your top flight customer service staff because I unlocked a hand-me-down device. And get this on the new iPhone.....no SIM card. Can you say new contract required? Oh well, so much for portability. So, Apple enthusiasts, grab your ankles and enjoy your new toy. My Weekend Plans.....
Sitting on a bag of frozen peas.
Yes, my life is filled with adventure. Call or Email anytime if you dont understand why I am sitting on vegetables and have frost bite on my back side. My recent procedure brought to light my lack of relationship activity and the fact that my eurologist is effectively my new girlfriend. And he doesn't even know it. Sunday, June 17. 2007

How Do You Get Mike Nifong Off Your Porch?
Answer: Pay him for the pizza. Yes, thats his next career, if he's lucky.
And I think those three lacrosse players should pursue maximum civil damages. Not for themselves, but for how far that circus-animal DA set back race relations and rape victom rights in NC. And remember to tip Mike well when he drops off that double peporoni special. Sunday, June 10. 2007

My Billy Donovan MomentLast weekend I bought a running T-shirt at RunTex (Austin run apparel store). A couple days later I changed my mind and returned it. At that moment I knew exactly how Billy felt (changing mind on Orlando Tragic job) and I had much compasion for his situation. It's good to have Billy back at UF for one main reason. Florida'a Atheletic Director (AD) is not the sharpest knife in the block. I know everyone else in the country thinks he is a genius with the 3 consecutive national championships (hoops and football), but us Gators know better. True, Donovan is one of the top five college coaches, but I really fear our AD. Remember, this same AD that hired Zook (and his no head coaching experience) to replace Spurrior. I'll support my reptiles no matter what (I went to every Galen Hall coached game), but I was losing sleep about Foley's next circus act. Sunday, June 10. 2007My Funeral Eulogy
Now I have no intentions of kicking off anytime soon, although I know a few people who think it would be an improvement to humanity.
This is a Chevy Chase special from Family Vacation adapted for me...... "O God, ease our suffering in this, our moment of great dispair. Yea, admit this kind and decent man into thy arms of thine heavenly area, up there. And Moab, he lay us upon the band of the Canaanites, and yea, though the Hindus speak of karma, I implore you: give him a break." |
